Ingredients
serving size: 2 adults + 3 kids
Ingredients:
1 can of Spam, thinly sliced
1 package of Nori (usually comes with 10 sheets,) cut into 2 sheets each
Rice:
5 cups of cooked rice
rice vinegar, 2 tbsp
sugar, 1.5 tsp
salt, 1/2 tsp
Spam glaze:
soy sauce, 2 tbsp
sugar, 2 tbsp
oyster sauce, 2 tbsp
Directions
1. Fry the Spam slices over medium heat by brushing over the glaze mixture on one side and turn the Spam slices until evenly coated in glaze. No oil is needed in frying Spam because Spam has enough grease on it. Transfer the glazed Spam slices to a plate.
2. Season your rice (for 5 cups of cooked rice, I used 1 tbsp of rice vinegar + 1 tbsp sugar + 1/2 tsp salt.) You can also add Furikake.
3. Cut the nori sheets in half.
4. To mold the musubi, start by placing a sheet of nori with the rough side up on a cutting board. Place a Spam musubi mold in the middle of the nori sheet and place rice – spam – rice into the mold. If you don’t have a mold, you can line a cleaned Spam can with Saran wrap and add the ingredients in the same order. Press the rice down firmly with a musubi press or with your hands. One the rice feels firm, press the mold press down with one hand and pull the mold upward with the other hand. Wrap the nori around the rice-spam-rice stack. When the nori is settled, cut the Spam musubi in half.
